Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Latest To Add Sports Betting In Colorado

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe is poised to become the second tribe in Colorado to offer sports betting, following an announcement July 19 that it has partnered with International Gaming Technology. According to a press release, the Ute Mountain Ute will offer digital wagering via IGT’s PlaySports platform, as well as retail wagering via kiosks and “turnkey services.”

The platform will be the 24th to go live in the state and the first since May 24 when Bally Bet launched. Tribal platforms and sportsbooks are not regulated or taxed by the state, but under their pacts tribes are entitled to offer sports betting because it is available to commercial entities in the state. The Sky Ute Tribe was among the first wave of platforms to go live after Colorado regulators launched live sports betting on May 1, 2020. The Sky Ute’s platform, powered by USBookmaking, went live on June 9, 2020.

The Ute Mountain Ute and IGT did not announce a go-live date for the digital platform, but did point to a late August opening for the retail sportsbook.

“IGT is honored to help Ute Mountain Casino grow its PlaySports-powered sports betting enterprise from the ground up,” said Enrico Drago, IGT PlayDigital senior vice president. “Our experienced trading team will ensure Ute Mountain Casino maximizes the full potential of the PlaySports platform’s integrated Player Account Management module and create compelling offers and promotions that will help build player loyalty and drive growth. IGT PlaySports has been processing sports wagers in Colorado since the first day of legalized sports betting in the state and we look forward to extending that momentum with Ute Mountain Casino.”

Patrons should expect personalized offers

IGT powers more than 40 sportsbooks across the country, and it’s also a tech provider for Colorado’s Sasquatch Casino and FanDuel, which was among the first four operators to go live in Colorado. It also has an existing partnership with the Ute Mountain Ute. The company’s PlaySports package, which it advertises as “sports betting in a box,” is live in 16 states.

“IGT has been a trusted partner of Ute Mountain Casino for many years and we are excited to expand our relationship and differentiate our casino with the introduction of sports betting and personalized betting offers,” said Rick Scheer, Ute Mountain Casino general manager, via press release.

The Ute Mountain Ute reservation is located in the “Four Corners” area, where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah all meet. Three of the four states currently have some form of legal sports betting; Utah is the only one that does not. Colorado and, by September, Arizona, offer statewide mobile wagering. Betting in New Mexico is limited to in person at several tribal casinos.
