Just in time for March Madness, those in Colorado will get a sports wagering opportunity available to few others in the U.S. — through a partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings, BetMGM is offering boosted odds and other promotions to customers who are physically located inside a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant. The companies announced the promotion on March 11, a week ahead of tip-off of basketball’s March Madness.
The timing should be especially sweet for Colorado basketball fans — Colorado got into the Field of 68 as a 5-seed, despite losing to Oregon State in the Pac-12 championship game. The bid marks the first time since 2016 that Colorado qualified for the tournament. The Buffaloes, who will play No. 12-seeded Georgetown on Friday, received the highest seed in school history.
Colorado State barely missed a bid, losing to Utah State in the Mountain West Championship game. The Rams, according to the NCAA, were the second at-large team left out behind Louisville. If a second at-large team withdraws from the tournament by 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday due to COVID-19 implications, Colorado State will be offered the slot by the NCAA.
“Fans wagering on sports inside Buffalo Wild Wings can now win bigger on select bets thanks to our innovative partnership with BetMGM,” said Rita Patel, chief marketing officer of Buffalo Wild Wings, via press release. “As sports betting continues to grow throughout the country, we look forward to further expanding our footprint in the space and activating our partnership with BetMGM in ways that make the experience at our sports bars second to none.”
BWW betting also available in NJ, IN, IA, TN, and WV
According to the Buffalo Wild Wings website, there are 10 locations throughout Colorado, and through the magic of geolocation, BetMGM will be able to determine when customers are sitting inside one of those locations and will offer them unique, “curated” betting options.
Buffalo Wild Wings and BetMGM became the first national sports bar and sports betting operator to partner in 2019, and since then, according to the release, 500,000 patrons have used the BWW-BetMGM free-to-play options. BWW received approval for a vendor license in Colorado last fall, and BetMGM was among the four national sportsbooks that went live in Colorado on May 1, 2020.
The opportunity for special wagers inside a BWW is also available in New Jersey, Indiana, Iowa, Tennessee, and West Virginia. The promotions are available via the BetMGM app and are called “Blazin’ Bets.”
Live, legal sports betting has been available in Colorado for less than a year, and those in the state have access to about 20 digital platforms, ranging from national titans BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel to Superbook Sports and Circa, both of which launched Colorado apps as their first first outside of Nevada.
